Week 2 UX Facebook
For this weeks observation, I will be evaluating Facebook. Facebook is a social networking website that connects users all around the world. Users are able to share posts, videos, pictures, thoughts, and more.
Task: Using Facebook
Design Heuristic #1: Visibility of System Status
- Good Usage: Facebook displays loading indicators when content is being fetched or actions are being processed.

- Severity Rating: 0: not a usability problem
Design Heuristic #2: Match Between System and the Real World
- Violation: Facebook's use of symbols and icons can cause confusion among users. Icons such as the "three-dot menu" for additional options or the "thumbs-up" symbol for liking a post may not be known to all users.

- Severity Rating: 1 minor usability
Design Heuristic #3: Consistency and Standards
- Good Usage: Facebook maintains consistent design patterns across its web and mobile platforms.

- Severity Rating: 0 not a usability problem
Design Heuristic #4: User Control and Freedom
-Violation: Facebook lacks a clear way for users to customize their News Feed preferences, such as prioritizing content from certain friends or pages.

- Severity Rating: 2 minor usability issue
Design Heuristic: Recognition Rather than Recall
- Good Usage: Facebook uses recognizable symbols and icons allowing users to recognize actions and features rather than having to recall them from memory. Icons such as the "messenger" symbol for accessing messages or the "notification bell" for alerts are universally understood.
